1. The Marshall University Foundation, Inc. has established a fund known as the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 949 Scholarship. The Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA)Chapter 949 has created this scholarship to support direct descendants of Vietnam Veterans in the Tri-state area. The VVA 949 mission statement reads, " To assist all veterans and their families of the KYOWVA (Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia) region through advocacy, education and awareness to assure "Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another."
2. The donor anticipates contributing a minimum of $1,000.00 a year to fund the award.
3. The recipient shall be an incoming freshman who is a veteran or has a relative who served during any era and a graduate of one of the following or their successors: South Point, Chesapeake and
Fairland in Ohio or Cabell Midland, Huntington, St. Joe, Spring Valley, Wayne in West Virginia or Paul Blazer in Kentucky.
Direct descendants include sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters and so on. (Stepchildren, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews and so on do not qualify.)
Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and have financial need per standards of the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher to receive both the Fall and Spring semesters of the award.
No additional award will be made in a year both semesters are not awarded.
The Office of Student Financial Assistance shall select the recipient.
4. The Marshall University Foundation, Inc. accepts funds where selection of recipients is not based solely on any of the following criteria unless University dictates otherwise: race, gender, religion, handicap or national origin.
5. Should the purpose of this fund no longer exist at Marshall University, or changes in the law impact the tax-exempt status of the Foundation, the Board of Directors of the Foundation may designate a purpose most consistent with the original intent of the donor.
